The 100-fold Return

The Bible is a beautiful book. It can reveal truths that transcend generations. Some weeks ago, this section of the Bible caught my eye:

Then Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year a hundredfold; and the Lord blessed him. The man began to prosper, and continued prospering until he became very prosperous; — Genesis 26:12–13 (NKJV)

My first interpretation of this verse is that of planting. My mind initially struggled with how a plant brings a 100-fold harvest. What is even a 100-fold harvest?

100-fold is not 100%. It is more.

100% is simply 2-fold (double). A 100-fold is 100 times 100%, which is 10000%. If, for example, you invest $10, a 100-fold return would be $1000. Now, scale that up. You can see why my mind struggled with that verse. Or if you plant a farm for $100,000, a 100-fold return would be $10,000,000. It goes against the grain of the natural experience.

Anyway, I began to wonder, how can this be possible? But I remembered.

But He said, “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.” — Luke 18:27 (NKJV)

So, all things are possible for those who believe in God, not the natural experiences. It has happened before in Isaac’s life and through the ages.

I kept contemplating this verse, but it struck my mind. This verse is deeper than planting crops or investing. It has a more profound application than money matters. Let’s dive deeper.

Remember that God told Abraham (Isaac’s father) something important. He said:

“…. for in Isaac your seed shall be called.” — Genesis 21:12 (NKJV).

Is Isaac that seed? Not at all. Let’s read Galatians.

Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as of many, but as of one, “And to your Seed,” who is Christ. — Galatians 3:16 (NKJV)

That seed is Christ.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. — John 1:1 (NKJV)

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. — John 1:14 (NKJV)

And Christ is the Word.

Let me ask you, what do you do with a seed? You plant it.

Where do you plant Christ? and what happens?

But these are the ones sown on good ground, those who hear the word, accept it, and bear fruit: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.” — Mark 4:20 (NKJV)

Christ is planted in men’s hearts, and the returns depend on the degree of acceptance.

So, the story of Isaac sowing in the land symbolises what is to come. Jesus planted in the hearts of men and bearing fruit through our lives.

But there is another layer and it goes deeper.

Isaac planted in a land of famine and reaped a 100-fold return. But what of a land of famine? A land of famine means the land lacked some essential attributes, e.g., water, which is necessary for a good yield. That is definitely not a good heart. But yet, a 100-fold return came. So what happened? In truth, that was the second planting. The first planting occurred here:

Then the Lord appeared to him and said: “Do not go down to Egypt; live in the land of which I shall tell you. Dwell in this land, and I will be with you and bless you; … ” So Isaac dwelt in Gerar. — Genesis 26:2–6 (NKJV)

So, God planted His Word in Isaac’s heart, and He obeyed (a good ground). As a result, when he sowed physical seeds, the seeds had to return 100-fold (regardless of the physical situation, in this case, a famine) because the physical must align with the spiritual. Once the word of God is accepted in the heart of a man, any

What does this mean? We see a pattern where the spiritual supersedes the physical.

In conclusion, I will summarise the points I made:

  • 100-fold return on any investment (whether business, spiritual, career, etc) is possible with God
  • If you first accept the Word of God in your heart and obey, you can sow the Word in every situation, whether favourable or unfavourable and still expect a 100-fold return. Note that you can sow the Word of God by confessing it and meditating on it.

It is easy to accept God’s Word in your life. Just confess your sins to Him and invite Him as your Lord and personal saviour. Say:

Lord Jesus, I repent of my sins and surrender my life. I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and He died on the cross for my sins and rose again on the third day for my deliverance. I believe this in my heart and confess with my mouth that Jesus is my Savior and Lord.

If you made this prayer, please reach out to me.

Let’s take the 100-fold return; it is ours.
